Victoria Beckham: Jean Genius

Before I jump on the plane I found this interview online were Victoria Beckham spoke to MY-WARDROBE.COM.

Designer WAG, celebrity mother and modern fashion icon; Victoria Beckham has many guises. These days, reflecting on the success of her dVb denim line, the one she wears most often in the media is designer. "I built the dVb brand from scratch which is a dream come true," Victoria told MY-WARDROBE.COM. "I am blessed to be able to do what I love and express myself creatively."

Speaking to the site, where she will stock her spring/summer 2009 collection, she reflected on the success of the range - insisting that her jeans are not just for the fashion pack and that she can dress, "any woman who loves style, wants to look good and appreciates quality." She lists Azzedine Alaia, Alexander McQueen, Alber Elbaz and Nicholas Ghesquiere as her design influences - noting that Marc Jacobs has been a particular inspiration to her.

"Marc is such an important designer in our time and his knowledge of art and pop culture is utterly inspiring," she enthuses. "I'm lucky enough to be able to call him a good friend and I continue to learn so much from him."

Alongside the strength of her denim offering, the success of her eyewear has also silenced many industry critics. Victoria is quick to credit the inspirations for her winning shapes: "My key styles are my large acetates, and Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Onassis have strongly influenced these pieces," she observes. "My large metal aviators are a modern day version on the iconic shape that we all know and love."

Whether jeans or accessories, however, Victoria maintains the key to looking good lies with the individual, "My best piece of advice is that women should always take into account their shape and personality - and cater for that rather than blindly following trends."

That last quote of hers is exactly why I love Victoria! When it comes to fashion I don't think there's anything more infuriating than seeing women follow trends and believe they're fashionable while doing so. No character and personality whatsoever! I hate stepping out and looking like everyone else. That's not what fashion is supposed to be about. Even if you like a trend incorporate it and make it your own, but don't just blindly follow the latest.
Thanks for the interview and tell Victoria I said hi! :D

Victoria will show her new collection on Sunday, 15th February at 13:00. I hope you'll get to meet her. I'm still not sure if it will be a proper runway show or not.
